There are infinite ways to write badly, but at least one type of bad writing is easy to correct. Read the following:
Soon, he would come to be sorry for the things that he had said.
A painfully wordy sentence like this is easy to fix--just cut it down. The result will be magnitudes better:
He would regret his words.
This sentence is crisp, forceful and concise. Every word has an important role. And unlike the monstrosity above, this sentence builds suspense.
Don't punish your readers and make them slog through your writing. Omit needless words!
